Sacred Traveler - The Frequency #1

This week, the letters make space for the song. I'm back in the place where Sacred Traveler was birthed, and I feel compelled to let it breathe here. Listen to it first, then keep reading. Or read first, then listen. You'll know which one.
In March of 2021, I was on this island in the colder months. I couldn't fit my guitar, so I walked into Island Music and bought a tiny travel guitar. And on Martha's Vineyard, with that tiny guitar, I finished writing Sacred Traveler.
I didn't know it then, but I was writing the manual for everything we've been building in these letters. Years before the noisy roommate had a name. Years before Sacred Traveler would find its voice on my album Divine Epiphany and almost become the title track. Years before The Override was The Override.
My body knew, but my mind hadn't caught up yet.
"Took half my life to see I'm on a sacred journey."
Half my life. Sit with that line. How much of yours have you spent on a map you didn't draw? The one someone handed you. The one everyone told you was the safe one, the smart one, the responsible one.
The one that looked like a promising path but was actually just other people's footprints. "Follow this script. Check off these boxes. Then you'll be happy." ...and? How did that work out for you?
You don't have to throw out the map or blow anything up. You just have to notice that the map isn't yours. Your job for the week is to tear off one corner... just one corner... and see what happens.
After Sacred Traveler was released, a friend of mine told me that song made him pull his drums out of the attic after 20 years. ...how he somehow got busy with life and lost himself along the way. He is now my drummer.
And honestly, he has been a gift to my own insecurities and discomfort with playing out. He adds flavor, makes it fun, and reminds me that this is not supposed to be so heavy all the time.
And that's the magic of the song. It finds the part of you that has been waiting to be remembered. And when that part wakes up, it doesn't just impact you. It ripples out and touches the people around you, too.
The resounding "I found my way" hits near the end like the climax of a Broadway production. I'm not the one singing that part, but when I heard it, I wanted to open my arms toward the sun and scream, "HELL YES." I still get chills every time I hear it.
And as the song reminds us, "Fellow Travelers, don't rush your ride."
The destination is not the point. The timing is not the point. The point is whether you are actually the designer and traveler of your own map.

So press play. Notice what your body does, because this song already knows you. That's why it found you.
'Til next time,
Your Fellow Traveler, Patty
